SEPTEMBER 21, 2018 — Today, Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions (CRES) announced recipients of the annual Clean Energy Champions Award, which honors Republican elected leaders in state and federal government. Award recipients will be formally recognized at the CRES Clean Energy Champion Awards Reception during National Clean Energy Week (September 24-28, 2018).

“CRES is proud to recognize a strong slate of Republican Clean Energy Champions for their steadfast leadership in promoting commonsense, clean energy policies that sustain the vitality of our economy, foster advanced energy development and support environmental stewardship,” said CRES Managing Director Heather Reams. “Solar, wind, nuclear, hydro, natural gas and geothermal power are proven drivers of job creation and economic growth, and they are critical to addressing our nation’s need for abundant, reliable and clean energy. CRES applauds this geographically diverse set of Republicans for pursuing an approach that balances free-market economics with the diversification of our nation’s energy system and preservation of our environment.”

This year’s list of elected officials who will be formally recognized at the CRES Clean Energy Champion Awards Reception includes:

  • Governor Gary Herbert (UT)
  • Governor Larry Hogan (MD)
  • Senator Lisa Murkowski (AK)
  • Senator Tim Scott (SC)
  • Representative Tom Reed (NY-23)
  • Representative Elise Stefanik (NY-21)

“Since taking office, our administration has worked in a bipartisan manner to promote common sense clean energy policies and initiatives,” said Governor Larry Hogan. “We are committed to continuing our efforts to grow clean energy investment and jobs, leading the nation when it comes to protecting and preserving our environment, including our most precious asset, the Chesapeake Bay. Thank you for this honor.”

“I’m proud to accept this award as we all work together to advance clean energy solutions,” Senator Lisa Murkowski said. “I’m a strong proponent of an ‘all of the above’ strategy that ensures all Americans have access to clean, affordable, and reliable energy. Our policy efforts, which include the promotion of energy efficiency and technological innovation, are producing real results by helping to lower costs in Alaska and across the nation, reduce emissions to mitigate climate change, and strengthen our energy security.”

“One of the biggest blessings we have as a nation, is the incredible amount of untapped energy solutions we have. It’s important for not only my home state of South Carolina, but for our whole nation that we work towards policy that encourages innovation, creates jobs, modernizes our infrastructure, and strengthens our national security,” said Senator Tim Scott. “I will continue to advocate for commonsense conservative solutions for our energy sector.”

“We care about ensuring our children and grandchildren have a fair shot at living in a clean and vibrant environment. We look forward to continuing our work with Members on both sides of the aisle to ensure all sustainable clean energy sources are promoted and would like to thank CRES for their recognition,” said Congressman Tom Reed.

“I am honored to receive this award, and I thank Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions for this recognition,” said Congresswoman Elise Stefanik. “As the proud Representative of the Adirondacks, I know the importance of protecting our environmental treasures. I have been pleased to lead the way on issues ranging from addressing climate change, to promoting renewable energy sources, and I will continue to work across the aisle to ensure we protect our environment for future generations to enjoy. I thank CRES for their important work on these shared priorities.”
