WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions (CRES) formally endorsed Ed Gillespie for Governor of Virginia and Jill Vogel for Lieutenant Governor of Virginia. The statewide contests represent two of the most high-profile and competitive campaigns in 2017, so CRES will also be making a financial contribution to both campaigns.
“I agree with Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions that we need to find commonsense solutions that balance the Commonwealth’s economic, energy and environmental needs, and I am grateful for their endorsement,” said Gillespie. “Clean energy is becoming increasingly available, reliable and affordable, and it will create economic opportunities. Virginia is poised to be on the forefront of clean energy innovation. I put forward a detailed plan to secure abundant energy resources and competitive energy prices that protect citizens from high energy costs, and attract the businesses that provide new jobs.”
“I am pleased to receive an endorsement from Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions and recognize the significance of it because of our aligned focus on creating domestic energy, reducing our dependence on foreign sources as well as responsibly using all of Virginia’s resources to create affordable, reliable and cleaner energy,” said Vogel. “As Lt. Governor, I will support an all-of-the-above energy strategy that keep our energy costs low, attracting new economic development projects that create good-paying jobs while also being good stewards of our scenic state.”
“When it comes to maximizing the potential for a clean energy renaissance in Virginia, the experience and vision offered by Ed Gillespie and Jill Vogel stand head and shoulders above the competition,” CRES Managing Director Heather Reams said. “Ed Gillespie has a plan that will sustain and strengthen investments in science, engineering and clean, renewable forms of energy to ensure good paying jobs and affordable power for all Virginians. Jill Vogel has been outspoken in her support for harnessing the power of the free market in support of wind, natural gas and solar energy development, and an ‘all of the above’ approach to bringing clean energy to consumers.”
“The fact that these endorsements mark the first time Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions has ever endorsed candidates for state office further emphasizes the critical nature of this election for Virginia’s future. CRES is committed to ensuring that voters across Virginia are aware of Ed Gillespie and Jill Vogel’s support of advancing clean energy policies that grow the economy, strengthen America’s national security, and improve the quality of our natural environment,” Reams concluded.
Ed Gillespie on Clean Energy:
“Thanks to technological advancements, clean energy is becoming increasingly available, reliable and affordable. These developments create economic opportunities and the promise of a cleaner environment. Virginia is poised to be on the forefront of this innovation. In order to succeed, Virginia must ensure that government regulation does not stand in the way of clean energy innovation. Ed supports a plan that boosts Virginia as a leader in the growing American clean energy economy, investing in our scientists and engineers, to support advances to make clean energy affordable to all Virginians. To ensure continued investment in Virginia’s clean energy future, Ed will promote a regulatory framework that allows and encourages utilities to invest in renewable generation and the upgrades to the electric grid needed to support it.”
Jill Vogel on Clean Energy:
“As Lt. Governor, I will support a true, comprehensive, all-of-the above energy strategy in Virginia focused on responsibly using Virginia’s domestic resources, reducing our dependence on energy imports, and expanding the development and use of clean, renewable energy sources such as wind and solar. Access to affordable, reliable, cleaner energy will create good-paying jobs and help Virginia attract new economic development projects. There’s no doubt that building these pipelines will help keep our energy costs low and keep Virginia competitive with other states.”
